Riserva dei monti di Palazzo Adriano e Valle del Sosio – Burgio

Welcome and Presentation
Arrival at the Azienda Agricola Traina in Prizzi.

Starting from the Traina farm, in the Prizzi area, we move above the town of Palazzo Adriano passing the Solomon Stone, one of the most important geological presences in Sicily, to then enter the Monti di P. Adriano and Valle nature reserve del Sosio, an authentic corner of paradise with almost 6 thousand hectares of pristine forest between the provinces of Palermo and Agrigento, in the areas of Burgio, Bivona, Palazzo Adriano and Chiusa Sclafani.
Among thick woods, grasslands and waterways that intersect with gorges, ravines and steep cliffs, you can continue for hours without finding any trace of human settlement, with the possibility of admiring the natural spectacle offered by the Sosio river, which flows in a canyon surrounded by holm oak and downy oak forests, clearings and valleys covered with rich vegetation, some of its stretches can be traveled over in the spring/summer period.
Of particular importance within the Reserve are the presence of some historic buildings such as the Case di S. Adriano and the Sanctuary of Rifesi.
Destination is the town of Burgio which falls within the Reserve, in the Province of Agrigento, of which we will discover its typical features: the historic artisan workshops linked to the production of artistic ceramics with the characteristic colors that recall the earth and nature, the foundry of the bells dating back to 1,500, the only reality left in southern Italy, the historic center with the various churches.
