Palazzo Adriano e il Permiano del Sosio

Excursion that combines the naturalistic beauties of the Sosio Valley, the heart of the Monti Sicani Park, with the history and culture of the area and its geological relevance, focusing in particular on the Permian del Sosio (with the presence of monoliths considered among the first lands emerged in the world) and on Palazzo Adriano, a delightful medieval village guardian of a tradition of Albanian origin which still today sees the co-presence of the two religious rites, Albanian Greek and Latin Catholic.
Starting from the Traina farm we will walk along the trazzera formerly used by shepherds to move the flocks within the territory, which connects the provinces of Palermo and Agrigento with the related towns and countryside. Surrounded by the panorama of the “Sican heart”, Monte Indisi, Montagna delle Rose, the Riserva dei Monti di Palazzo Adriano and Valle del Sosio, we will reach Palazzo Adriano from the upper part of the town, then crossing the maze of alleys and historic buildings until we reach the main square, in front of the sixteenth-century fountain with a particular octagonal shape and the two main churches, symbol of the town, placed right opposite each other.
Brief stop for a walking tour, with a visit to the geological and cinematographic museums, the Frederick castle, now home to the museum of Albanian clothing and culture, and part of the ancient fortified citadel. Return to the Company by retracing the course of the Sosio river via the farm road, which historically connected most of the countryside in the area.
